sucides of farmers

Bundelkhand  is a region where farmers  are  taking  suicides in very alarming  numbers.Agriculture of this  region  depends  on  rain water  .In last  few  years mansoon has not been good , hence  production of  crops  decreased highly. Mainly  seven  distt ..1 banda 2hmirpur 3jhansi 4 lalitpur 5 mahoba 6 chitrakoot and 7 jalaun are worst hit .As reported suicides figures  are .......in year 2009 no. of suicides 568 in yr  2010  no. of  suicides  583 and in  2011 in just 5months  are  519 .Actualy in bundelkhand  net  income  from  agriculture  is lowest , this is why small and marginal  farmers  are  suffering a lot  . Due to  almost non income  stage  they  take  loans  from  banks but unable to return  . their  land  and  properties  are  auctioned  by  collectors. It further deteriorates farmers  life  and  lastly  they  choose 'hanged to death' option.In region  irrigation  facilties  are poor , all farming  depends on GOD who is not in favour of them even for few yrs .Rural cottage industry  is  another option , but it  must  be  in huge  scales ..and  same time  marketing  of  products must  be  done  by  govt . I have  been in distt jalaun as  sub divisional magistrate and i know prsonaly  all problems  related to  farmers .NGOS should also  work in  cottage  industries for  the  help  of  this  region.
